I’m excited, I’ve just found what may be my perfect cafe, or should that be licensed fromagerie! Milk the Cow in St Kilda offers a flight of drinks matched with beautiful cheeses. That might not sound that unusual, but it’s ALL they do! Cheese and alcohol, that’s it. Brilliant!
Based on the cheeses I really want, I pick the sparkling flight but there’s also wine, cider and beer options. They’ve even got a whiskey and cheese matching night coming up, how awesome!
My flight starts with an Aussie NV Azahara Brut, with a french Brilliant Savarin, a luxuriously soft white-crusted cow’s milk cheese.
Oh Tallegio, how I love thee. So no surprise the Mauri Tallegio combined with a Zardetto prosecco is an instant winner in the slightly smelly washed rind stakes.
A straight up italian Parmigiano Reggiano works with a spanish Segura Viudas Vintage Brut. And the french Veuve Ambal Rose Brut pairs well with the very fresh italian La Tur, a soft ripened cheese made from a blend of sheep, goat and cow’s milk. I reluctantly have to stop now to go meet up with friends for dinner – oops!
I just can’t wait to get back to Melbourne and my perfect cheese cafe. Be still my beating heart.
Where am I? Milk the Cow, 157 Fitzroy Street, St Kilda VIC 3182 (there’s one on Lygon St as well)
