Long lunch at LuMi on a long weekend
It’s a long weekend, it’s a stunning blue sky winter day, and I’m walking down the boardwalk to LuMi restaurant on the water, with floor to ceiling glass on three sides. Before I’ve even seen the menu, I’m hooked.
Then I see the menu, and the wine list, and my anticipation goes up again.
Five course tasting at LuMi lunch
I often have a favourite dish; in this meal every dish becomes my new favourite. Each dish, and the menu as a whole is so well balanced. The crab with scallop emulsion gives a huge freshness and flavour punch, and has me wishing that I could have it delivered for lunch every day.
The beetroot, black sesame and horseradish is the perfect dish for a group of self-confessed beetroot fans.
Duck tagliatelle with in-season black truffle shavings is very rich & heartwarming, but well balanced, the truffles didn’t overpower it, and it’s a sensibly small serving so the richness is not too much. Similarly the sirloin is a petite serve, melt in the mouth and simple with the mustard.
The ‘not too sweet, a little bit savoury” dessert of fennel powder, coconut and rhubarb carries a subtle liquorice flavour, with the rhubarb surprise of colour and taste hiding in the middle.
We have paired the early part of the menu with a Tronken riesling (Austria) and then moved onto a soft Australian grenache for the rest. The service was friendly and impeccable, and the room itself is pure Sydney at it’s best – modern, glass, water, sunshine. We love it so much we’ve booked in again for next week before we even left the restaurant – can’t wait!
Best things: The location, the service, the crab & scallop emulsion
Worst things: That I don’t live closer to it
