An invite to an evening of Pinot Noir tasting, mainly from New Zealand and France? Yes please!
There was a great range and diversity of Pinot Noirs, but my favourite ones stood heads and shoulders above the rest. I have to confess some of the French pinot noir won this hands down, albeit at 2 to 3 times the price of most of the other wines. They all had incredible balance, complex flavours and a swampy dryness. They ranged from $96 to $175 a bottle. The one NZ pinot which held its own against the French was my long time favourite, Dry River from NZ, at a hefty $120 as well. It’s fair to say that I enjoyed this tasting.
