Down the alley to an Italian wine tasting
It’s actually down Crown Lane, to a white walled art gallery, for todays tastings from Best Cellars. Still, who doesn’t want an Italian wine alley? Damn good way to spend a Saturday afternoon, even though the old sandstone block can’t keep the heatwave away from us as much as we might want. A few tastes in and I’ve strangely forgotten the heat already!
The wines are a mix of those made in Italy and those made in Australia of Italian grape varieties, which adds a nice comparison opportunity. Some of my favourites on the day are:
- The Hedonist, McLaren Vale Sangiovese
- Chianti’s and Valpolicelle, especially the Fontodi Chianti Classico
- Barolo, all the big beautiful barolos’
- and to my surprise, lots of lovely vermouth, I need more of these.
