The first night in Uganda
Sydney to Dubai to Entebbe airport, to 2Friends Hotel in Entebbe on the edge of Lake Victoria. As I arrive they hand me a complementary cold beer (a Nile Special). This is off to a good start, I think I’m going to like it here!
I dine on a bamboo platform of the edge of the lake, a delicious plate of Tilapia fish and chips, freshly made. It’s washed down with another cold Nile Special. Now it’s time to sleep off any risk of jet lag. And in the morning I get to have a delicious breakfast of crispy bacon, avocado, watermelon, pineapple and papaya!
Eating and drinking in Kampala, Uganda.
There’s some pretty decent dining choices in Kampala. Mediterraneo had some really nice chianti and I had a delicious beef carpaccio and a shared salad. At our hotel, Forest Cottages, we shared a meal of samosas (vege and meat), avocado salad and some fried sweetcorn balls. The korean at AriRang had crunchy prawns, a lovely bibimbap, deep fried pumpkin and more. We ate pizzas outside in gardens with lights strung through trees, in balmy weather. And we ate Mexican at Que Pasa, the local bar restaurant – it may not have been the best tacos I’ve tried, and the drinks might have been a bit rough, but it was the most fun place in town for sure.
In addition there are good coffee shops, plenty of tea, and gin & tonics were possibly my most regular refreshment.
